Before The Dream Fades Away.....

I just got up about ten minutes ago from a fitful night's sleep. I just had a weird dream that was based somewhat on that pool table dream sequence from "Project: A-ko - Cinderella Rhapsody". It also involves one of the best A-ko fanfic characters we've created, our dear Sempra Vigilantia, as well as A-ko, B-ko and the Captain Napolipolita.

Got to write it down before it fades away, while it is still fresh.

At the Daitokuji Mansion, of course, they have a billiards table, and Sempra was watching A-ko and B-ko play. (Sempra, being from another world in another galaxy, knows not a lot of Terran sports.) So Napolipolita takes A-ko, B-ko and Sempra down to a Western-style sports bar and restaurant for a game of billiards. She intends to have them taught by the local master of the game.

He is a "sad sack" type of character; in the dream, he looks like Patrick Swayze. He's wearing a green-and-white plaid shirt and jeans and sneakers. He goes around with an almost perpetual sad daze on his wide-eyed face. An expatriate American, he left the States when his personal hero - Curt Cobain, lead singer of the ultimate grunge rock band "Nirvana" - killed himself back in either 1992 or 1993. So he's been sort of stuck there in his mind ever since. He couldn't believe Curt would do that, so his world shattered when it happened.

So to him, it is always 1993...even though, in the story, it is 2030.

He barely eeks out a living doing odd jobs and lives alone. But he knows his grunge music and its relevant trivia, and - especially - he knows his billiards. So when our ladies arrive at the sports bar and restaurant, he plays a couple of games with them. He especially explains to Sempra how the game helps to sharpen hand-to-eye coordination, and expounds on the physics of the game, especially on the principle of inertia.

"Yah see..." he says to Sempra at one point, gesturing with his hand. "A body at rest stays at rest, a body in motion stays in motion. So it...it plays it all out here. Balls hit other balls, they keep rollin' until they hit the boards or enter the pockets. Until there's no more balls left, see?"

A-ko gets freaked out by him, B-ko discusses theory and technique with him. The Captain keeps her back turned away from the bar, but gets mustard and ketchup stains on her blouse from eating cheeseburgers. (Enjoying them immensely with her trademark smirk on her face.) And Sempra, hearing his story, pities him, sad that he had no ability to let go of his personal idol and live his remaining years with some sense of purpose and peace.

The lesson done, they thank him and go their way.

Okay...it's done. The story's out of my head. What do you think, friends?

Character-driven piece, very nice. Why don't you start writing this stuff up as original fic and send it off to get published? It's really good.

Reading this over again, I at least have the title for this vignette:

"Inertia"

And thank you, sis, for the kind comments. *humongous hugs* Everyone else on the friend list here, comments? Additions to this that spring up from your intuition and imagination? Type away!

How... random! But very cool. I can see this as a one-shot story.
